The Cathedral and Abbey Church of St. Alban includes an architectural mix from many different periods and is visited by many pilgrims from afar. There are several cultural, religious and other events which take place here from time to time.

Abbey Gateway was built in 1365 and was used for several years as a prison, then as the Liberty Gaol and now forms a part of St. Albans school. There are guided tours for visitors in the cathedral.
