Swinton: Attractions and more...

There are a lot of historic buildings to see in Swinton, like the Salford Civic Centre. The architectural centre-piece of Swinton is the neo-classical Salford Civic Centre. This center has a 38 meter high clock tower. Originally it was established as Swinton Town Hall.

The land of the former industrial school situated on Chorley Road was purchased for 12,500 pounds. The foundation stone of the new town hall was laid there on 17th October, 1936. Some of the main buildings include the J Gerrards and Son of Pendlebury. Moreover, the new town hall was opened for business on 17th September, 1938.

Once it was reported that this town had the greatest number of chip shops per capita in Britain. Further, there is an architectural highlight, which is the Tudor styled Wardley Hall. This hall is the base for the Bishop of Salford and for Salford Diocese. One can also visit the Swinton Lions RLFC which is a rugby league and enjoy the game.
