The population of this civil parish is about 2,700 people. Tarporley is located on the western side of Cheshire Plain.

This plain is a rural area, where farming is the main business. The village is famous for the dairy herds, woodlands, pasture and meadows.

The farmland covers the sandstone and glacial deposits.

Since the village is located in the North West of England, the climate is cool and damp for most of  the year.
