Walkden is a town situated within the metropolitan borough of the City of Salford in Greater Manchester. The term Walkden has been in existence since the 13th century. It was used in the documents dating back to 1246. This town is located 6 miles from west-northwest of Salford and around 7 miles from west-northwest of Manchester. Historically, Walkden was a part of Lancashire and was once a centre especially for textile manufacture and coal mining.

There were underground canals which linked Walkden to Worsley and were used to transport coal from the mines in Walkden until railways was used as transportation. These railways are mainly used by the commuters. At present, one can travel through the Manchester-Liverpool route.

As per the UK Census held in 2001, this town had a total resident population of 38,685. The climate is average of air temperature annually.
