The civil parish Wells, lies on the southern border of Mendip Hills. The name of this city is derived from the 3 wells located in Wells. All these 3 wells are devoted to Saint Andrew. One of the wells lies in the market of the town. The other two are located between the cathedral and Bishop's palace.
The population of Wells is 10,406, as per the 2001 census. Though this is a small population for a city, Wells has been considered a city since 1205. The title of Wells as a city was confirmed by Queen Elizabeth II in 1974.
Wells city is located in the South West region of England. Hence, it experiences a typical maritime tropical climate. Due to this climate, the winters are mild, while the summers are warm. The air masses carry warm and moist air.
