Whitby is most famous for Whitby Abbey. It is located on a cliff top and adjacent to a pond.
The abbey is believed to have been built in the 7th century. The experts believe that the Northumbrian King Oswy sent a princess named Hilda here to set up an abbey.
The memorial of Princess Hilda is set inside the Abbey. The Abbey has lots of mysteries and interesting stories.
The Vikings destroyed it, however, the Normans reconstructed it. This place is worth visiting.
Captain Cook Memorial Museum was founded in 17th century as a harbour side house. The house belonged to the great voyager, James Cook.
Now the magnificent house is converted into a museum. The museum holds some splendid paintings, original prints and drawings.
The Fylingdale museum holds a spectacular collection of artefacts and documents, that exhibit the glorious history of Whitby.
