The center of the city in York is very compact and offers tourists a wide range of shopping options. The down town region can be easily reached by foot and provide wide options from household supermarkets to designer outlets.
In the center of the city one can shop at Stonegate, the Shambles and Petergate. The Newgate market which is in the center of the city between Parliament Street and Shambles is a market square with more than hundred and twenty stalls.
Some of the big and popular shops in the region include the multiples in the Coney Street area, the Jorvik Viking Center and the Coppergate center. You can even get to see street fairs and street entertainment in certain areas like King Square, Parliament Street and more.
There are a number of specialty shops in York such as Crabtree and Evelyn which sells decorative pieces, soaps, candles and also edibles like biscuits and cookies. Harpers are the best place to buy watches and jewelry items.
