Tourist Guide Arbroath

Arbroath is the oldest royal burgh and the biggest town in Scotland and its population comprises of 22,785 people. It lies on the North Sea coast. Arbroath's name is based from its spot at the Brothock Burn and is a short form of Aberbrothock. The town's name has since achieved a world-wide stage for two extremely different reasons.

Arbroath developed considerably during the Industrial turnaround due to the growth of the jute industry.
Arbroath is a very old port with genesis dating back to Pictish times. The region has a mild climate and is well known for its soft fruits.

Arbroath is also famous as the abode of the Arbroath Smokie. These are couple of haddock attached at the tails and smoked over burning hardwood chips in 1.5m square barrels. This procedure still takes place in several numbers of back street smokeries close to Arbroath.
