Tourist Guide Greenock

Greenock can be described as a big town as well as former ‘burgh of barony’ within ‘Inverclyde council area’ of Scotland’s western area.

Greenock goes on to have formed a portion of one of the contiguous ‘urban area’ with ‘Port Glasgow’ on the eastern side and ‘Gourock’ on the western side.

As of census conducted in the year 2001, population of Greenock was 45467.

As per geography, Greenock lies on ‘south bank’ of ‘Clyde’ at ‘Tail of the Bank’. It is here that River Clyde moves further to expand in to ‘Firth of Cycle’.

Till the year 1974, Greenock had been one of the ‘parliamentary burghs’ in right of its own. It got merged with ‘Port Glasgow’ thereafter. This led to the formation of ‘Greenock and Port Glasgow’ constituency. It went on to become ‘Greenock and Inverclyde’ in the year 1997. Following redistribution of ‘Scottish Seats’, its merging in to the big ‘Inverclyde’ took place.
