Inverness really is the gateway to the Scottish Highlands.

Whatever your pursuit, Inverness and the surrounding area have something for you. From guided mountain climbs to walking, quad biking to husky racing, white water rafting to surfing (really), it’s all here.
Of course, you might just want to do some walking at your own pace – and maybe bag yourself a Munroe in Ben Wyvis.
But it’s not all rock and ravines. The area has its fair share of spectacular coastline – and some astonishing beaches. Nairn, Lossiemouth and Cromarty (on the Black Isle) are quiet, reflective places to stroll an afternoon away.
You can even watch bottlenosed dolphins from a chartered or scheduled boat in the Moray Firth.
The plentiful food and clean waters allow them to grow bigger than any other bottlenose dolphins – and you can see them at the mouth of Cromarty Firth, Chanonry Point, North Kessock (visitor centre) and Fort George.
If you’re really lucky, you may even spot a whale!
