Kilwinning: Attractions and more...
Kilwinning consists of the pedestrianised historic town centre, Bridgend which is now surrounded by the newer estates of Corsehill, the Blacklands, Woodwynd, Pennyburn, Whitehirst Park and Woodside. The places worth visiting are the Eglinton country park, Eglinton Castle and country park, Eglinton Tournament Bridge, Girdle Toll, River Irvine, Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Barony and Castle of Giffen, Archibald Montgomerie, Beauport Park and so on.
A two mile long ley tunnel, passing under two rivers, the Garnock and Lugton Water is said to link Kilwinning Abbey with Eglinton Castle. There is very little evidence if any of this fact. It is more likely to be romanticized legend. Eglinton country Park is a place for having a quiet walk in the woodlands, around the loch or through the Clement Wilson gardens. Having a relaxing day out, a picnic and enjoying the visitor centre, children’s play areas, and bird watching.
