Tourist Guide Livingston:

Livingston can be referred to as the 4th post-war ‘new town’ built in UK Scotland. It obtained this designation in the year 1962.

Livingston lies at a distance of around 25 Km on the western side of Edinburgh and 50 Km on the eastern side of Glasgow. Moreover, it’s bordered by towns such as ‘Broxburn’ on the north-eastern side and Bathgate on the north-western side.

Livingston enjoys the credit of being the biggest town within West Lothian region. It had been built around constellation of petite villages, Bellsquarry, Livingston Village, and Livingston Station; which is called ‘Deans or Dechmont’ now. Livingston contains numerous residential areas or precincts. These are inclusive of Howden, Knightsridge, East Calder, Uphall Station, Mid Calder, Polbeth, and Pumpherston.

As per 2001 census, population of Livingston was 50826. Moreover, an urban ‘agglomeration population was 59511.

The shopping is second to none and the parking is ample but there is a charge 50p 1 hour, £1 2 hours, £2 4 hours etc. There is a great variety of restaurants and take-aways all vying for your custom which is keeping the cost very reasonable. Growing up in Livingston (Livi) I have seen the town grow twice in size with a huge choice of homes being built and continuing to do so, there are new areas being added to the suburbs and within the towns existing areas all the time. Livi's main transport within the town are buses, these are ran mainly by First Group, the buses do cover every area, ... More but do take a while to get around town if you are travelling from the outskirts. There are two train stations, south and north providing links to Edinburgh and Glasgow, the trains are regular with Livingston North having a train stopping every 20 minutes, except Sunday service which is hourly. Activities for teenagers is lacking if you cannot afford to pay for after school clubs or sports and hobbies, therefore there can be groups of kids from poorer backgrounds walking the streets and some can cause mischief occasionally by being roudy etc. In the town centre there are pubs and clubs which open late and provide a good nightlife for those who prefer a clubbing night out, there is a reasonable selection to choose from.

Nice place, a lot of roundabouts, difficult to find places, a lot of work places. Maps to guide you to where you wants to go, good for shopping and meals.
