St Matthew’s Church
St Matthew’s Church, which was constructed in 1906, is also called as Church of the Nazarene. William Daniel McLennan, a local architect, was the designer of this church. It has an Art Nouveau style.
The Thomas Coats Memorial Church
The largest Baptist Church in Europe is the Thomas Coats Memorial Church. It has a crown spire which has a height of over 60 meters and hence it dominates the skyline of Paisley. In the interior one can view marble fonts, mosaic floors and wooden carvings. The outside of the church is constructed of old red sandstone. The designer of this church was Hippolyte Jean Blanc and it was made open to the public in 1894.
Paisley Town Hall
The owners of the Anchor Thread Mill, the Clarks offered the funds to construct the Paisley Town Hall, also known as the George A. Clark Town Hall. Due to this, Sir Peter Coats, who was the competitor of the Clarks with respect to production of thread in Paisley, provided funds to construct the Paisley Museum and Library, which was completed in 1871. Both these edifices are equally imposing. These majestic structures are an evidence of the success, influence and power of the textile industry in Paisley.
Paisley Abbey
The tower and east end of the Paisley Abbey are excellent illustrations of the Gothic Revival architecture. These were constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The west end of this Abbey dates back to the 12th century and is a classic example of original Gothic architecture.
