Tourist Guide Shetland Islands
Off the northeast coast of Scotland is a group of closely located islands called as Shetland Islands.
These are located 280 Kms from the Faroe Islands. Towards the east of Shetland Islands is the North Sea and towards the west is the Atlantic Ocean. To the southwest of the Shetland Islands is Orkney.
The population of these islands in 2007 was 22,000. The climate is of a Maritime Subarctic type. The summers are cool and the maximum temperature is 21 degrees Celsius.
The prominent cultural influences on these islands are Scottish and Scandinavian (particularly Norwegian). The fiddle music on the islands is a combination of slow airs, jigs, Scots reels and Norwegian folk music.
