Old Town lies between the modern town centre and the castle. In 1550 the Broad Street in Old Town was the main hub of trade and commerce. These ancient streets at the foothills have been reconstructed and restored several times over the decades. Some of the notable buildings and attractions in Old Town include the Old Town Jail, Old Tolbooth and the Mercat Cross topped by a unicorn.
