The Brecon Castle built in 1093 was the first stone castle in Wales made out of motte and bailey. At the end of the 12th century, the stone shell keep of the castle was built. Then in 1233 the stone bailey wall was constructed and in 1300 the hall block was added which is now part of a hotel. A hawking and falconry center is situated in the castle. The castle is open for public viewing from 9 am to 5 pm on all days of the week.
