Caerphilly: Attractions and more...
Caerphilly Castle is simply amazing and imposing! It lies on a 30-acre site. Moreover, two lakes surround it. A fine defense mechanism indeed! Work with regards to Caerphilly Castle started in the year 1268. It was overseen through Norman Lord Gilbert. Romans has ‘fort’ in its vicinity. Llywellyn, the last ‘Welsh Prince of Wales’ had attacked it during its initial days. His campaign was, however, crushed by none other than Edward I. By late fourteenth century, ‘Caerphilly Castle’ went on to become primarily one of the administrative centers as well as a lavish center with regards to entertainment; thanks to the big ‘Grand Hall’.
The restoration of Caerphilly took place between ‘1928’ and ‘1939’. It was done by ‘4th marquis of Bute’. Concentric plan of castle has been beautifully preserved. Great Hall has been made available for programmes.
