Cwmbran can be described as one of the ‘new towns’ located in ‘Wales’; inside Monmouthshire’s historic borders. It’s also Torfaen’s county borough.
The year 1949 witnessed establishment of Cwmbran. The objective behind its inception was generation of novel employment opportunities within South Wales Coalfield’s south-eastern part.
The word ‘Cwmbran’ actually means ‘valley of the crow’ in Welsh language.
The population of Cwmbran on the basis of surrounding hamlets such as Pontnewydd, Croesyceiliog, Llanyrafon, Llantarnam, Upper Cwmbran, and Old Cwmbran was 47254 in the year 2001.
From the historic point of view, Bronze age and Neolithic people utilized the region; with tribe of ‘Iron Age Silures’ having occupied the region prior to getting subdued by ‘Roman legions’ which were based at Caerleon and Usk.
Cwmbran falls under the category of ‘hilly area’. Hence, the climate is quite cool. The period between November and January would prove to be the best one to pay a visit.
