Neath Abbey was one of the Oldest Cistercian monasteries in the southern Wales. It was founded in the year 1129 by Richard de Granville. This Cistercian house was once the largest abbey in Wales. Historian John Leland had once called Neath Abbey the fairest abbey in the whole of Wales. The archaeology of the abbey had eventually go-under excavation in between the year1924 and 1935.
