Dolforwyn Castle
It is an excellent illustration of the type of castles erected by the Welsh princes as an opposition to the ones constructed by the English within Wales. It is placed along a wooded ridge which overlook the Severn Valley the site commands superb views in all directions except east.
The castle is fairly archaic in its modeling in comparison to the structures found elsewhere. An rectangular dais was cut down from a rock which was some 240 feet by 90 feet and the original castle consisted of a rectangular keep to the south west end area of the dais and a spherical surpass on the reverse end.
The two constructions were then linked by fortifications, which helped in making a rectangular shaped field, which had a D shaped tower on the northern wall. The enclosed area was separated into two by a ditch cut through the rock and a two storey structure; it was built beside the north wall.
The foremost foyer was through the west wall of the castle and a smaller way in was had been prepared in the south wall.
