The Youth hostel 'M. Spagnoli' is housed in a completely restructured, building of historical importance. In fact the original tower, still intact, was used in medieval times as a 'town gate' for the payment of duties. The hostel is situated in the centre of a public park, near a well equipped sports centre, and is well connected to the historic centre by the new, fast Minimetrò. Perugia, rich in culture and art, is host to the International 'Umbria Jazz' festival, Eurochocolate and the Sagra Musicale Umbra. It is also the centre of two Universities and educational institutions like the Academy of 'Belle Arti', the Conservatory of Music and the School of Journalism. Close to the hostel, and not to be forgotten, is the Biblioteca delle Nuvole which is the largest Italian comic strip library!
