Ravnice youth hostel is a family business, created and managed by Vera who designed and built the house a year before it opened for its first guest, in summer 2001. The main goal was not only to offer cheap accomodation to backpackers but also to give them a place where they could meet other travellers, get a good sleep, clean and feel safe. The house is located in a quieter part of Zagreb, called Ravnice (which on english means the plains). Vera has lived nearly all her life in Zagreb, where she graduated architecture and worked for ten years before moving with her family of two children (Lea and Boris) to Perth, Western Australia. A few years later she came back to Ravnice to live. The idea to open a hostel was inspired by Phillipa, a friend from Australia who was backpacking through Europe and also by the fact that cheap beds was just what this city needed.Today, Ravnice youth hostel is kept safe and clean by two grandmothers Neda and Mica, Renata, Tanya, Vera and Lea. Most of us are students, graduates, football players, travellers and mountaineers. We hope to welcome you and be an enjoyable part of your travels here in Croatia!
