Although the street food scene in Edmonton, Alberta isn’t quite as large as that of Vancouver, Edmonton residents have enjoyed the recent arrival of several food carts and trucks around the city of nearly 750,000 people.
For starters, the inaugural What The Truck? festival was held in 2011 at Beavers Hills House Park in downtown Edmonton. The food festival featured a wide array of dishes, including pizza, hot dogs, Asian fusion and Chinese food, along with other deep-fried street food staples.
“What we're hoping is this will inspire a lot more people to get into food trucks. It's starting, in Edmonton, but we could use more variety,” notes festival organizer Mack Male. “This is a great way to bring some life and vibrancy downtown.”
Among those permanent mobile restaurants that have made their way into Edmonton are Drift Mobile Eatery and Eva Sweet Waffles, which serves up an impressive menu of the doughy treats.
