Standing tall at 450 feet, downtown Edmonton, Alberta’s EPCOR Tower is one the tallest buildings in the whole city. The office tower, which has been in construction since spring 2008, is named for EPCOR Utilities, its anchor tenant.
Nicknamed the “Power Tower, EPCOR is expected to be completed by the end of 2011, when construction costs will have reached an estimated total of $250 million. In all, the new building has 57,000 square metres (614,000 square feet) of space, and the company it’s named after takes up about half of this. The skyscraper stands 28 floors high, making it second only to the nearby Manulife Place.
EPCOR, Edmonton’s first new office tower in almost two decades, will also feature a full-service restaurant, deli and concourse at its base upon completion. Plans for a connecting rapid transit line and downstairs art gallery were scrapped during the construction phase, but officials have voiced the desire to expand the tower’s offerings in the future.
