Rising 146 metres (479 feet) above downtown Edmonton, Alberta, Manulife Place is the city’s largest building. Named after anchor tenant Manulife Financial, the 36-floor highrise is located at the corner of 102 Avenue and 101 Street and is home to offices and a two-story shopping centre.
One of downtown Edmonton’s premier shopping destinations, Manulife Place’s shopping centre is anchored by high-end department store Holt Renfrew and also features dozens of other specialty shops, services and restaurants. The centre is generally open from 10 a.m. until at least 5:30 p.m., although its hours vary throughout the week and some stores keep different schedules.
At the end of a two-year construction period, Manulife Place was completed in 1983. Its status as Edmonton’s tallest building has recently been challenged by the nearby EPCOR Tower, which is taller when flagpoles are taken into account. Either way, however, the skyscraper still looms large over the streets of Edmonton.
