Sporting the extensive North Saskatchewan River valley parks system, Edmonton, Alberta is home to more than two dozen parks and other public facilities, all of which offer countless opportunities for recreation across all four seasons.
Major public parks like Hermitage, Forest Heights, Emily Murphy, Rundle, Dawson, Willim Hawrelak, Gold Bar, Louise McKinney, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Goldstick, Queen Elizabeth, Whitemud, Capilano, Kinsmen, Terwillegar, Kinnaird, Victoria, Fort Edmonton, Stratchcona and other popular destinations like the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Muttart Conservatory and John Janzen Nature Centre make Edmonton one of the crown jewels western Canada, in terms of public recreation. The river valley also includes three golf courses in Riverside, Victoria and Rundle Park.
In all, Edmonton’s parks system covers 111 square kilometres (27,400 acres) of land. The area is home to 11 lakes and 14 ravines.
