One of Edmonton, Alberta’s three largest malls, Southgate Centre has the southern end of the city covered. With almost 90,000 square metres (870,000 square feet) of space, the spacious mall features over 50 shops and restaurants on two floors.
The recently-expanded Southgate Centre’s is anchored by three large stores —grocery chain Safeway and department stores Sears and The Bay — but will add a fourth when housewares and furniture retailer Crate and Barrel arrives in late 2011. In addition to its anchor stores, the mall includes everything from specialty shops like Sephora and Coach to electronics outlets such as The Source by Circuit City and Apple, which opened at Southgate in 2010.
Southgate opened in 1970 and, at the time, was Canada’s biggest shopping centre west of the Toronto area and Alberta’s first large-scale mall.
The mall can be easily accessed by car, bus or Edmonton’s Light Rail Transit system. It’s open from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. during the week, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays.
