Situated between the popular Strathcona neighborhood and the always-busy University of Alberta campus, Edmonton’s centrally-located Garneau district rarely sees a dull moment.
Not far from downtown Edmonton, the Whyte Avenue historic area, Garneau is home to many residential properties and business alike. In recent years, Garneau has enjoyed a growing number of new homes and condominiums, thanks to its convenient location.
One of the district most popular attractions, the 71-year-old Garneau Theatre, is one of Edmonton’s most historic sites and a window into cinema’s early days. Currently being repurposed as a home to programming from non-profit Metro Cinema Edmonton, the theatre also hosts the annual Edmonton International Film Festival.
Garneau looks over the valley created by the North Saskatchewan River as it winds through the city. It’s also bordered by the Queen Alexandria and McKernan neighborhoods the southeast and south, respectively.
