Edmonton Streets and Neighbourhoods: information about Riverdale

Riverdale

Rating:

One of the most popular residential hubs in Edmonton, Alberta ever since the city was founded in the early twentieth century, Riverdale lies just east of Edmonton’s downtown district and the North Saskatchewan River.

The combination of Riverdale’s beautiful homes and the downtown Edmonton’s majestic backdrop make the neighborhood one of the city’s picturesque jewels. It also features several parks — Allen Stein, Dawson and Louise McKinney — and is home to a school as well.

The neighborhood was one of the early settling points for Edmonton’s first residents, many of whom worked in nearby lumber mills and brickyards. Most of the older homes are gone now, with only about one-fourth of them dating to the mid-1940s or earlier. Many of Riverdale’s current properties were built in between the 1950s and ‘80s.

Riverdale is bordered by downtown Edmonton to the west, the Boyle Hill neighborhood to the north and the North Saskatchewan to the east and south. It’s also joined in the river valley by the Cloverdale and Rossdale neighborhoods.
