Located North of Edmonton, High Level city lies in the northern Alberta, Canada. It is situated at the crossroads of highway 58 and Mackenzie Highway. The name describes the altitude of the land that divides the Hay River and the Peace River. The area was mostly visited by fur traders till 1786 but it was settled in 1947. In 1957 the first power plant of High level was established and in 1956 the first post office was erected. The city for many years was called Tloc Moi which means Hay Meadow.
The total land area of the region is 31.99 square kilometer. In 2006 the total population of the city was 4,199 residents. In 1960s the first oil fields were discovered at this place and 1963 railways arrived which lead to the development of the area. The main economic activity of the area is oil field mining and lumber mill. There are two oil fields located here and an OSB mill is also there in the industrial area of the town.
The temperatures of the place vary extremely. The temperature can be as high as 35.2 degree C to as low as -50.6 degree C.
