Lloydminster is a city in the Canadian province of Alberta. Lloydminster is a city which has the distinction of being on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan. The interprovincial boundary crossing the city has only one municipal council, which sits on the side of Alberta. Lloydminster is the only city in Canada overlapping the interprovincial boundary. These are not twin cities, but a single municipal entity and has a population of 20 988 inhabitants as per the national census of 2001, of which 7 840 (37.4%) live in Saskatchewan. The city's population growth was significantly higher in the city at the rate of 16.2%, from 1996 to 2001 than Saskatchewan (2.7%). In this particular situation, the city is exempted from provincial sales tax in Saskatchewan and is located entirely in the time zone of Alberta (Mountain Time). About two thirds of the residents live on the side of Lloydminster Alberta and one-third on the Saskatchewan side.
