The Town of Pincher Creek is located in the Southwestern Part of Alberta, Canada. It is situated near Waterton Lakes National Park and towards the immediate west is the Canadian Rockies. The Peigan, Blackfoot and Kootenai visited the region. In 1868 a group of mineworkers lost a pincer in the creek which gives the place its name. A horse farm was established by NWMP in the area in 1876. The first store in the creek was opened by James Schofield in 1884. It was incorporated as a village in 1898.
The total population of Pincher Creek in 2006 was 3,625 and covers an area of 8.84 square kilometer. The area is a prime tourist destination. The pioneer families’ descendants which came and settled in the area some 100 years ago are still living in Pincher Creek. The Pincher Creek is sometimes very windy climate as Strong Chinook wind frequently blows from the mountain. 177 kilometer per hour is the strongest recorded wind.
