| Attractions and things to do |
The Bar U Ranch commemorates the history and tradition of ranching in Canada. The cattle ranch contains 35 original buildings, some dating back to 1880. From 1882 to 1950, Bar U Ranch conducted some of the foremost ranching operations in Canada.
Between 1902 and 1925, this ranch achieved international repute for breeding first-rate cattle and purebred Percheron horses. It also served as a training ground for many cattlemen. A video of the area’s ranching history is shown in the Visitor’s Orientation Centre.
Special events include the Old Time Ranch Rodeo with ranching techniques displayed by cowboys and the Chore Horse Competition demonstrating traditional ranch work by horses. The Pekisko Creek General Store on the ranch stocks various local items. |
