Northwest Territories, Canada has an area of 1,346,106 sq km. With 41,000 inhabitants, its capital is Yellowknife.
The territory of Northwest Territories shares its borders with a few islands in the Arctic Archipelago and with Nunavut, Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba on the Canadian mainland. Many of these provinces were carved out of Northwest Territories. Its topography is dominated by mountain ranges, lowlands and the tundra region.
Originally inhabited by the Inuit, Cree and Ojibwa people, it was later occupied by the British with the Hudson’s Bay Company.
