Nova Scotia has an area of 55,283 sq km. Its population is approximately 934,400; its capital, Halifax.
Nova Scotia, in Canada, is the second largest province of the country. The mainland of the province, Nova Scotia peninsula, is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. The nearby Cape Breton Island, lying in the north-east of the mainland, is part of the province. The shipwreck-prone Sable Island also comes under the province of Nova Scotia. In spite of its location adjacent to the sea, Nova Scotia experiences a continental climate rather than a maritime climate.
The economy of the province has only recently started diversifying from fishing, mining, forestry and agriculture, to industries such as tourism, technology, music and film production. |
