Nunavut, Canada has an area of 2,093,190 sq km and a population of about 29,000. Its capital is Iqaluit.
Nunavut shares its borders with Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Newfoundland and Labrador and has an aquatic border with Ontario and Quebec. Nunavut’s topography is dominated by the Canadian Shield (rocky region) and the Arctic tundra.
Nunavut came into existence as a territory only in 1999, prior to which it was part of Northwest Territories. Originally inhabited by the indigenous Inuit people, it was later occupied by the British.
