| Attractions and things to do |
Quttinirpaaq can be translated as ‘top of the world’, and this National Park lies 800 km from the North Pole. The reserve has an area of around 38,000 sq km, making it the second largest park in Canada.
The landscape is dominated by the Grant Land Mountains covered in ice, making this region an arctic desert with sparse vegetation. There is some wildlife such as the caribou, artic wolves and musk ox.
Glaciers and ice-fields cover one-third of this park. Quttinirpaaq offers the adventurous activities like glacier travel, skiing in the ice fields, backcountry camping and travelling along the fjords. Most hikes begin at Lake Hazen or Tanquary Fiord. Try climbing one of the many peaks of Grant Land Mountains. Experience dog-sledging, a traditional mode of travel.
