| Attractions and things to do |
Prince Edward Island National Park was established in 1937 with an objective to protect the many beaches, sand dunes, barrier islands, wetlands and forests of this area.
The diverse habitat in the park provides a home to 300 species of birds, notably the endangered Piping Plover as well as animals such as the hare, red fox and muskrat.
This park is most famous for Green Gables, a farmhouse which was the inspiration for the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ novels by Lucy Montgomery. This is part of the L. M. Montgomery’s Cavendish National Historic Site. There is also the Dalvay-by-the-sea National Historic Site, which now acts as a heritage home. Greenwich Beach is popular for recreational activities. Try camping in the Cavendish area or hiking through the Woodlands.
