Established in 1970, La Mauricie National Park covers an area of 536 sq km in the Canadian Shield. This region has a rich legacy; occupied by the Algonquin people, it has several historic sites that are reminiscent of them.
The vegetation mainly includes deciduous and coniferous forests and 440 species of plants. This habitat acts as a home to 40 species of mammals including the moose, black bear and coyote.
The landscape of the park is dominated by the Canadian Shield dotted with several lakes and ponds. Visitors can camp at the Rivière-à-la-Pêche campgrounds or picnic in the Shewenegan area and enjoy bathing in the nearby Les Cascades Waterfalls. Other activities include skiing, canoeing and swimming in the Anticagamac Lake and hiking along Laurentien Trail.
