Established in 1984, Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve consists of around 40 limestone islands and over 1,000 islets and reefs in the Gulf of St Lawrence.
The vegetation consists of boreal forests, bogs, shorelines and saltwater marshes, which act as a home to 450 species of plants. Also found here are 200 species of birds including the puffin, common eider and seagulls. Whales and seals are commonly spotted here, and land animals include the beaver, muskrat and weasels.
Mingan Archipelago National Park offers 44 campgrounds spread over six different islands, the most popular island being Île Quarry. Several water sports activities such as sailing, kayaking, scuba-diving and swimming are popular. Samuel Trail on Île Niapiskau is a popular hiking path.
