With an area of around 3,875 sq km, Prince Albert National Park protects a part of the boreal forests in this region. This area has a rich history being inhabited by the Cree people and later by the British with the Hudson’s Bay Company.
Prince Albert’s boreal forests, rivers and marshlands support abundant wildlife such as coyotes, black bears, bison, foxes, caribou and 195 species of birds.
Visitors can try hiking along the Kingsmere River Trail or backcountry camping. Namekus Day is a popular picnic site. Amiskowan Lake offers canoeing opportunities, while Waskesiu Lake is popular for swimming. Wildlife viewing and bird-watching are common tourist activities. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available in the winter. |
