Coquitlam is a city which is situated in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia in Canada, where the Fraser River joins the Coquitlam River. As per the census of 2007, the city had a population of 120,512. The city is named as ‘Kwikwetlem’, which means, the little red fish and the 1st people to inhabit the region were the Coast Salish. Coquitlam covers a total area of 152.5 sq miles. The city is surrounded by Burke Mountain, Coquitlam Mountain and Eagle Ridge to the north, Port Coquitlam to the southeast, Port Moody and Burnaby to the west and New Westminster to the southwest. The city experiences a temperate climate and has a high level of precipitation which means twice more rain than that of Seattle. Most of the winters experience no snowfall as temperatures are above freezing point.
