The City, Dawson Creek is a small city which is located in the northeastern side of British Columbia, in Canada. The municipality of 20.66 square kilometers had a population of 11,811 in 2007. Dawson Creek derives its name from the creek by the same name and which runs through the community. Once this city was small farming community and it became a regional center when the Northern Alberta Railways got extended in 1932.
In the 1950s, this city was connected to the interior of British Columbia by means of a highway and railway through the Rocky Mountains. This city is located in the dry and windy prairie land of the Peace River Country.
In 1941 census, Dawson Creek was defined subdivision with 518 residents. And as per the 2006 Canadian Census, there were 10,994 people living in 4,650 households within the city. The city is located on the Pouce Coupe Prairie in the southwestern part of the Peace River Country, with 72 km of southeast of Fort St. John and 134 km northwest of Grande Praire.
