The city is also called the Capital of the Peace. It is known as the “Mile 0 City” due to its location at the southern end of the Alaska Highway. The culture of the city is centered on its designation as Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. The community is home to a heritage interpretation village, an art gallery and a museum. There are also annual events like a fall fair and a spring rodeo.
There is also the Northern Alberta Railways Park which is around four acre of paved park which a gathering point for the visitors. The park includes the Dawson Creek Art Gallery that has exhibits work by local craftsmen and artists. Then there is the Station Museum which is connected to the Art gallery and displays artifacts and exhibits which are associated with the construction of the Alaska Highway.
Some of the recreation facilities include ice hockey arenas, indoor swimming pool, speed skatinf oval and many more such facilities.
