Tourist Guide Fort St.John

The city of Fort St. John is a small city situated in the north eastern of British Columbia in Canada. As a member municipality of the Peace River Regional District, this city covers an area of almost 22 kilometers with 17,402 residents as per the 2006 census. The city is located at Mile 47 and is considered as the second largest city along the Alaska Highway after Whitehorse.

The first census to include the city as a defined subdivision occurred in 1951 and recorded to 884 people. The population increased drastically and it doubled every five years for 15 years and by 1996 there were 6,749 residents living in the city. Population growth slowed in the 1970s and by 1981 swelled to 14,337 people.

The latest census taken in 2001 recorded 16,034 residents, of which 6,155 were households and 4,240 were families residing in the city. The city experiences a cool continental climate with frigid winters and warm summers.
