Kamloops is a city situated in the central British Columbia in Canada. It is at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River and near the Kamloops Lake. Kamloops is also the largest community in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and also the location of the regional district’s offices. Also, the surrounding region is more commonly referred to as the Thompson Country. This city is even ranked as 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada having 92, 882 residents in 2006.
Kamloops is surrounded by the smaller communities of Pritchard, Scotch Creek, Chase, Pinantan, Cherry Creek, Savona, Adams Lake and Paul Lake.
The climate of Kamloops is semi arid steepe climate because of its rain shadow location. This city has winters which are generally mild and short with an occasional cold snap where temperatures can drop to around – 22 degrees Fahrenheit. During the 2008 and 2009 it was reported that the area experienced its lowest temperatures on record.
