Tourist Guide Squamish
Located in the British Columbia in Canada, Squamish is a district municipality. It lies north of Howe Sound near the Sea to Sky Highway. The town came into being in 1910 with the construction of the Pacific Great Eastern Railway. The work Squamish has come from the aboriginal language that inhabited the place before the Europeans came. The downtown Squamish was traditionally called Keh Kait. Chiyakmesh is the largest village in the Squamish. The cost of living at Squamish is comparatively lesser than Vancouver and Whistler.
As per the census of 2006 the population of the region was 14,949. Forestry was the main economic activity of the town. Western Forest Products pulp mill was the largest employer in town whose operations ceased on January 26, 2006.
The place has wet climate and around 2400mm rainfall occurs in a year. The place is well known amongst the tourist due to the variety of options it offers. Mountain biking, river rafting, hiking are some of the popular activities that can be pursued.
