Covering 22 hectares (55 acres) in the Shaughnessy neighborhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, VanDusen Botanical Garden is a collection of some of the world’s most beautiful plants. The popular recreational spot in central Vancouver also features a gift shop, book and seed library and restaurant.
Certainly one of Canada’s most wondrous gardens, VanDusen sports many Rhododendron hybrids, beech trees, whitebeams, lilacs and magnolias, not to mention breathtaking mountain views and peaceful ponds. Its knowledgeable staff of volunteers frequently gives guided tours, lectures and workshops on the garden’s grounds.
VanDusen also plays home to annual events like the VanDusen Garden Show and the Festival of Lights.
Named after Canadian lumber tycoon and philanthropist Whitford Julian VanDusen, the park was first conceptualized in the mid 1960s and opened to the public in 1975.
