Featuring both world-class permanent exhibits and some of the best touring displays around, the Vancouver Art Gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia is western Canada’s largest art museum and the fifth biggest in the whole country. The gallery’s more than 10,000 pieces spread over 41,000 square feet highlight the history and culture of the area through some of its most talented artists.
Founded in 1931, the Vancouver Art Gallery is now celebrating 80 years as one of the city’s must-see destinations. Legendary Canadian artist Emily Carr contributed many of her best pieces to the gallery during her lifetime, as did modernist virtuoso Marc Chagall and the Group of Seven, an all-star team of early 20th century landscape painters. Magnificent work by members of Canada’s First Nations also adorn the gallery’s walls, giving visitors a visual history of the Pacific Northwest.
The gallery’s campus is also home to a library, cafe and gift shop.
