Home to some of Vancouver, British Columbia’s most important pieces of history, the Museum of Vancouver is a perfect day trip for those who want to learn about the people that came before and how the city of more than two million people came to be the booming metropolis it is today. Founded in 1894, the museum has grown along with the city and is now the largest civic museum in all of Canada.

The Museum of Vancouver prides itself on extensive permanent collections like “The Gateway to the Pacific” and its accounts of early 20th century Vancouver, the “Boom, Bust and War” exhibit that focuses on the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, “The 1950s Gallery” and counterculture chronicle “You Say You Want a Revolution.” It also features an authentic Egyptian mummy and taxidermy of local wildlife and regularly hosts touring exhibits based on a variety of interesting subjects.

The museum is located at 1100 Chestnut Street and is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on most days throughout the year.
